Hello All,
I am glad to see that you are already using the blog-site of the course. I can see from these first comments that we will have a great variety of professionals participating!
Let me introduce myself: Bastiaan Louman. I will be the main resource person of the course, together with Ernest Foli from Ghana. I am a Dutchman (at least last time I checked) but have bee working since 1983 in tropical countries in the field of agroforestry and natural forest management. Working on adaptive forest management introduced me to the theme of adaptation to climate change and since 2008 I have been involved in research and training activities in the field of adaptation and mitigation to climate change. Currently I lead CATIE’ s program on climate change with a group of young, yet experienced and dedicated researchers whose experiences will be the basis for this course.
I am looking forward to meeting you all in Seoul and hope that you will make ample use of this blog to get to know each other better and prepare for the course.
See you soon!

please let me know if the participants have to make presentation on their related activities in the training.
Thanks
Jul 05, 2010 @ 07:50:05
Regarding presentations by participants, please note that each training workshop will include group work and discussion sessions addressing issues related to local research projects. Although there will be no formal presentations by participants required, it would be of advantage if participants could share their past or current research work and in this way “enrich” the content of the workshop.
Kind regards
Michael

Hi All,
This is Nabaghan Ojha from India. I am extremely happy to know that there is a good mix of experts who are going to attend the training workshop in Seoul shortly. Let me present here a brief introduction on me.
Since 2000 I have been working in the forestry sector with an organisation called Regional Centre for Development Cooperation (RCDC), a development organisation based at Orissa (an eastern Indian state) focusing on community based forest management in India. Presently I am in sabbatical for a year to undertake an independent research on climate change and its impact on forest based livelihood. I have also floated a centre in Bhubaneswar to work especially on forests and climate change. Besides, I am part of some international networks like NTFP Exchange Programme (NTFP EP), Forest Governance Learning Group (FGLG) etc. My key expertises are climate governance, sustainable forest management, NTFP market, Participatory Forest Management (PFM), Forest policy research and advocacy etc.
I am anxious to meet the other participants and the resource persons next month. Thanks. See you soon.

Hello and namaskar to the organisers and my fellow participants.
I am Sanjeev K Chauhan, Associate Professor Forestry at Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana (India). My main emphasis of research is on Agroforestry and carbon sequestration potential of fast growing tree species. Presently I am working on European Commission funded project on CDM (please find details at http://www.benwood,eu). The role of forests in climate change mitigation is well known and lot of emphasis have been placed on trees to make use of natural process of photosynthesis in carbon capture through fast growing tree species. The pre-conference training will help in learning the latest on the subject and interaction with fellow participants will be fruitful for future forestry/agroforestry research. Presently I am coordinating IUFRO 1.03.03 section of Short Rotation Forestry.

Dear all,
I was born in Bangladesh and currently a PhD candidate with Ehime University in Japan. I have not-a-long history of working as agroforestry consultant. My PhD research revolves around tropical homegardens. Ongoing research projects I am involved with touch issues like community-based adaptation (CBA), restoration and conservation of cultural-ecological landscapes (including Satoyama and Satoumi), depopulation and aging problem in mid-mountains etc., among others. Also currently working towards producing Bangladesh edition of a conservation biology textbook.
My likely future project will be on adaptation and mitigation role of temperate tree-based intercropping systems, which is why I became interested in this pre-congress training to enrich my understanding of CC issues.
See you all in Seoul soon!!
