Dear Participants,
Thank you very much for your lively responses to my first post on the Workshop Blog, “Opening Statement”. It is good to learn that participants are from diverse backgrounds and thus will bring a wide range of experiences into the workshop.
My next question is about your expectations towards the workshop. Kindly click on “About this Workshop” and then read about the details of the workshop objectives and content.
After that, post comments on areas of research, issues and aspects that you are specifically interested in. This will help the trainers and resource persons to design the workshop content in a way that is most beneficial to the invited participants.
Please make sure to leave your comments in this section of the blog - “Your Expectations”.
The trainers and resource persons look forward to reading from you!
Kind regards,
Michael

Dear Dr. Michael Kleine,
Thanks for it! The workshop content is very interesting and satisfies my interests. Something else I would appreciate to have more information is about carbon markets and how to access this type of market to finance tropical forest conservation and restoration projects.
See you soon! Danielle

Hello all!
Based on the themes it looks like we are going to have a very interesting workshop next august. I´ve been working in research on tropical forests with particular emphasis on carbon storage ecology and the relation with management activities (logging, services, markets). Since 2004 we´ve been involved with the international project RAINFOR based on permanent plot sampling in several forest-types in Venezuela.
I have a special interest about how research (e.g the one that we are undertaking with RAINFOR) can make possible the design of local and national policies to include adaptation issues for national forests, specially those assigned for wood-production goals.
Bye!
Emilio

I am delighted that Bastiaan Louman, an agroforestry specialist, is with us as the main resource person. I very much look forward to learn from him something about agroforestry’s contribution in adaptation and mitigation. More specifically I expect to learn contribution of tree-based intercropping systems to the adaptation of the agricultural sector in temperate climate.
If not too much beyond the scope, I also wish to learn how agroforestry systems impact on microclimate and some basics of quantification of environmental services of multifunctional intercropping systems.
Thanks Louman in advance.

Dear Participants,
Sorry for not having participated too much in any discussion so far. The workshop is only a little more than a week away and it is time for you to start thinking of your participation in Corea. Sofar, we have had three participants indicating their expectations or requests for further detail and I am looking forward to more indications from you of your interest in specific topics. There is still time for us to make slight modifications to the content of the course and look for clear examples of specific aspects of forest and climate change of interest to you. I do like to remind ou that we will focus on adaptation, as indicated in the workshop program avilable on the iufro-website (http://www.iufro.org/science/special/spdc/actpro/wkspmal07/conws2010/). Our objectives are:
“The workshop will address climate change from the perspective of adaptation of forests and people to the impacts of changing climatic conditions. Participants will have the opportunity of enhancing their understanding of the following aspects:
(1) Observed impacts of climate change on forests and their services to society, particularly in tropical and sub-tropical regions;
(2) Role of ecosystem services in adaptation strategies; and
(3) Implications for forest research and on-the-ground forest management.”
From out side, the resource persons, we would like to urge each of you to prepare a short presentation on work that you or your organization does in this field, exemplifying the role of forest ecosystem services in helping local poeple cope with global (climate) changes. Although time is short and we prefer not to set aside sessions for presentations (this would take more than a day with 20 participants) such presentations, if kept very short, can help the work in the working group sessions.
Looking forward to your suggestions
Bastiaan

Dear all,
I hope that everything is going well with all of you. I am very much looking forward to this upcoming training. I teach and do reseach on carbon sequestration of forest tree species in natural and restored forests in northern Thailand. Therefore, I anticipate that this training can provide me with recent information and techniques on assessing carbon sequestration that is related to climate change.
Sincerely,

I am PhD Fellow in the Division of Genetics and Tree Propagation at Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, India. I am working on molecular characterization and genetic variability studies in Himalayan Pines. I am very keen to learn the impact of Climate change on Forests and the how can forests adapt to the change. I hope the training makes me more aware in this field as i am from the field of Plant molecular biology and want to enhance my understating on Climate change and its effects.it would be helpful if some study material could also be provided.
Thanks!
Looking forward to the Training and meet the participants.
Thank you
Priti.
